Neubiberg, Germany–(news wire) February 2023, 02 — Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Seungsoo Lee) announced on the 07th that it has launched a PDM microphone with a small package and low power consumption.
Infineon has been the world's No. 3* supplier of MEMS microphones for three consecutive years. According to a recent survey by Omdia, a market research company specializing in technology, Infineon's market share as a microphone MEMS/ASIC die manufacturer has grown significantly to 1%* in 2021. This achievement was possible because Infineon provides customers with a customer experience that no one can match, based on its long-accumulated experience in MEMS microphone design and mass manufacturing.
Infineon's MEMS microphone development strategy includes all major technologies for microphone products: MEMS, ASIC, and package. Therefore, Infineon is responsible for the performance, quality and technological innovation of these products. Based on this know-how, Infineon announced that it is adding a new ultra-low-power digital microphone, IM69D128S, to its XENSIV™ MEMS microphone product portfolio.
This microphone is designed for applications requiring high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)/low microphone self-noise, long battery life and high reliability. High SNR of 69dB(A) enables crisp, clear audio quality without sacrificing battery life. Additionally, the current consumption of IM69D128S, which is based on a digital microphone ASIC, is 520μA, setting a new standard in the industry. This is only half of other products on the market with similar performance.
Additionally, the IM69D128S switches between different power and performance profiles without causing any user-perceivable audio abnormalities. This PDM (pulse density modulation) microphone uses Infineon's latest sealed dual-membrane MEMS technology to provide a high waterproof rating (IP57) at the microphone level.
The extremely low power consumption of the IM69D128S makes it ideal for hearable applications where battery life is critical, such as true wireless earbuds, over-ear headsets, and hearing aids. Additionally, its small size and high performance make it suitable for space-critical applications such as wearables, smartphones, and IoT devices.
