Neubiberg, Germany–(news wire) October 2022, 10 — Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Seungsoo Lee) announced on the 07th that a new factory built in Çegled, Hungary has entered operation.
This factory focuses on the assembly and testing of high-power semiconductor modules for electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are expected to play a key role in reducing CO2 emissions globally. Infineon has also invested in expanding its production capacity for high-power modules that enable green energy, from wind turbines and solar modules to energy-efficient drives.
“Infineon wants to focus on long-term growth potential,” said Rutger Wijburg, COO of Infineon. “Decarbonization and digitalization are increasing the demand for Infineon semiconductor solutions,” he said. “Chegled is already playing a big role in the transition to green energy. “The new plant will help meet the growing demand for electric vehicles.” He continued, “Infineon has continued to invest, foreseeing the future growth potential of e-mobility. “Currently, Infineon is establishing itself as a key semiconductor company for the transition to green energy.”
The growth of e-mobility will accelerate further in the future. By 2027, vehicles with fully or partially electric drivetrains will account for more than 50 percent of new vehicle production.
Since its founding, Infineon has been investing in Hungary, investing 1 million euros in the new plant and receiving partial subsidies from the Hungarian government.
Infineon is the world's No. 1 power semiconductor company, expanding the introduction of renewable energy and providing solutions for efficient storage and use of green electricity. Additionally, as a global leader in automotive semiconductors, we are leading the development of electric vehicles. Of the two electric and hybrid vehicles produced in 2021, one adopted Infineon semiconductors for the inverter.
When the new plant is fully operational, the number of employees at the Çegled plant will increase by 275, bringing the number to approximately 1600.
